 Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Anyone with average or above intelligence can be hypnotized. The depth of hypnosis varies, but anyone with an imagination and the willingness, can be hypnotized. Whether you are in a very deep state of hypnosis, known as a trance state, or in a very light trance state, you can achieve benefits from hypnosis.

Will I reveal personal information while hypnotized?
You will not reveal any information you don’t want revealed. You are completely aware of what is happening and do not give up control of what information you share.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No, you cannot get stuck in hypnosis. Hypnosis is a state that you often enter unknowingly. For example, when you are driving your car and reach your destination without recalling the details of the trip, it is a form of hypnosis. When you are watching TV you are in a state like hypnosis. These trance like states wear off naturally so getting stuck is not a possibility.

How many sessions will it take to achieve my goal?
It is impossible to predict this but many have had quit smoking in one session, while other goals require several sessions. Sometimes the issue is deeper than imagined and results vary from one individual to another.

Does the hypnotist have power over me while I am in hypnosis?
The hypnotist has no power over the client. If they did, everyone would be thin, healthy, nonsmokers with great self esteem and no stress. You always have the ability to refuse to accept the suggestions of the hypnotist. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis! The hypnotist is only a guide to help you reach those goals you want to achieve using this wonderful tool. You will be taught to continue to use self-hypnosis to maintain your success after the sessions have ended. You maintain control of your actions at all times.

Hypnosis is an interesting word that comes from the Greek word for sleep..Hypnos. Hypnosis has been documented historically for centuries and used as far back as history has been recorded. It is currently accepted and used in the medical community for many things including, but not limited to: pain management, pre-surgical preparation, and relief of the symptoms of many chronic conditions that are related to stress and other types of emotional problems.

Although hypnosis is different than sleep, there are ways it is similar. Both require a feeling of being relaxed both physically and mentally and both can be monitored by a brain scan to identify the brain activity showing a trance like state or a sleep state.

Because there are so many misconceptions about hypnosis I have decided to share questions that have been asked of me to help understand the true nature and benefits of hypnosis

Sue from NY asked: I don’t think I can by hypnotized… how do I know if I can be?

Answer: That is the most common question asked…ever! There are a very small number of the general population that cannot be hypnotized. They include people with with some mental deficiency or very low IQ, infants or children who cannot understand or follow directions, and those who don’t want to be hypnotized. I cannot hypnotize anyone who wants to resist, as hypnosis is a team effort between the client and the hypnotist. Since all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, I am just a coach and a guide for the process.

Paul from CT asked: I have been to hypnosis shows and people did really weird things. I don’t want to lose control like that. Can the hypnotist make me do weird things? Answer:  No, the hypnotist has no control over you. Remember, that at those shows the people came for entertainment and volunteered to participate indicating a willingness to do whatever they were guided to do. If at any time they didn’t want to, they would have resisted or come out of hypnosis. Therapeutic hypnosis requires a willingness to make a change in your thoughts and behavior to reach your desired goals, not give up control. The hypnotist has no power or control over the client…if they did, the whole world would be the perfect!

Roger from CT asked: My friend stopped smoking with hypnosis but I have a high-pressure job and wonder if hypnosis can help me handle my stress that keeps me awake at night? Answer:  Absolutely! The problem with stress is not how much you have, but what you do with it. Are you more like Velcro or Teflon? Stress is a natural part of life. Without it you would be bored to death! However, are you like a sponge that absorbs everyone else’s stress? Do you create more stress by obsessing over things that are completely out of your control? Do you tend to focus on the negative “what if?”  Do you expect the worst to happen? Do you turn mistakes into self-fulfilling prophecies? Hypnosis and self-hypnosis teach you how to relax at any time and any place. It also enables you to slow down your breathing and heart rate to shut off the flow of adrenaline that causes the symptoms that stress creates. With hypnosis you experience relaxation and can develop a Teflon-like shield to prevent negative energy and from being absorbed it like a sponge. Sleep is as important as food and water for a healthy existence and hypnosis can help you regain the peaceful sleep you need and want.
